Dear STOP 700 MORE Campaigners

Just a quick note to keep intouch, if you have a few minutes free this evening there is a Hounslow Herald Newspaper poll that closes in 2 hours, that you may want to click on... it asks:-
"Should Heathrow still go ahead with the third runway? No/Yes"

The poll can be found right at the bottom of the newspapers main webpage (scroll down) at:-

VICTORY IN COURT Thursday 27th February

Dear STOP 700 MORE Campaigners

The Court of Appeal has found the Airports National Policy Statement to be unlawful, through failure to properly consider the Paris Agreement.

2020-02-27 victory
Victory! Outside the High Court this morning!

Moreover, when given the opportunity to signal that it would appeal to the Supreme Court, the government declined.

The full documents can be found here. The main summary of the judgement is here - paragraphs 9, 10 and 11 are the key ones.

We will be meeting with the villagers at the Five Bells in Harmondsworth at 5pm today. The media will be in attendance.

We are celebrating today's court ruling, as it is most definitely a very, very positive step in the right direction. Today's ruling does not end the campaign to stop expansion but this is a major milestone in our fight.

Apologies for not taking a Stop700More Group photo at 9am this morning - the rain and sleet was just too much and soaked everything whilst giving out the T-Shirts... and with all the umbrella's up, the banners were hidden! However, for those that braved the weather and came along, thank you very much - there was a great crowd and we have some brilliant individual photos from later in the morning when the verdict was released and the sun came out!

Neil

Heathrow Court judgment Thursday 27th February

Dear STOP 700 MORE Campaigners

There is a change of date! The Court of Appeal will be 'handing down' its judgment on the legal challenge to the Government's Heathrow expansion plans this Thursday 27th February.

100501 Judgement day

This date is now confirmed and we'll be gathering outside the High Court from 9am on Thursday, where there will be a peaceful 'protest' supporting the parties taking the action against the plans. The judgment is likely to be handed down inside the court from 10 or 10.30am.

The location is The Royal Courts of Justice, Strand, London, WC2A 2LL.

A group of us will be travelling from Harmondsworth up to the High Court. Let us know if you'd like to travel to the High Court on the train with us.

Please bring friends and/or family that can make it and we'll provide banners and campaign t-shirts to wear!

Live Streaming of the judgment

It was announced yesterday that, in view of exceptional public interest in the outcome of the Heathrow proceedings - which will decide whether Chris Grayling, the former transport secretary, was right in failing to take account of the Paris Agreement temperature limit when approving plans for Heathrow expansion - the Court of Appeal will be live-streaming its judgment. The live-stream will be accessible via this link:

https://www.judiciary.uk/you-and-the-judiciary/going-to-court/court-of-appeal-home/the-court-of-appeal-civil-division-live-streaming-of-court-hearings/

Thanks to Plan B Earth - an environmental charity and one of the parties in the legal challenge, for successfully campaigning for this open justice.

As ever, for the very latest information, please check with social media sites, particularly Twitter.

Neil

Court of Appeal judgment expected Friday 28th February

18th Feb 2020

Dear STOP 700 MORE Campaigners

We have heard that it is the intention of the Court of Appeal to deliver its judgment on the Heathrow legal challenge on the 28th February. Whilst this is only an "intended" date, we need your support on the day the judgment is delivered.

Will you join us outside the Court on the day of the verdict for a solidarity event? We won't know for certain until a couple of days before if the 28th February is the day, but we'll let you know next week as soon as we know.

Whatever day it is, we'll be gathering from 9am outside the Royal Courts of Justice on the Strand. The postcode is WC2A 2LL. A group will be travelling from Harmondsworth, via West Drayton, on the train. Let us know if you'd like to travel together with us!

We need your support outside the court on the day to ensure our message - that Heathrow expansion should not and cannot happen - is heard loud and clear!

- We will be handing out "Stop700More" T-Shirts from 9am.
- Bring a friend (or two) along with you
- Do keep your eyes and ears tuned into social media.

Appeal Verdict Approaching

11th Jan 2020

Dear STOP 700 MORE Campaigners

We are expecting the Courts to announce their findings at the end of January and it would be nice to make our usual strong presence outside the court. We will not know which day until a couple of days before, but we have made a good show with equally short notice in the past.

When you signed up to this group I promised you I would only call on you twice and that we would not take over your lives. If you have done your bit already many, many thanks, you were brilliant (and can "unsubscribe" below). If however you are still up for the fight and would feel terribly, terribly guilty, (no pressure) leaving us, you are obviously more than welcome.

I suspect we would meet outside the High Court for 9am with the announcement sometime after 10am; we do not expect it to be a long morning. Regardless of the outcome, those bringing the legal challenge have pledged to take it to the Supreme Court if need be, and have a fighting fund for such an eventuality. If the findings are favourable to our cause, it will be a small step towards runway cancellation and not the end.... but it would be the beginning of the end..... gosh! I came over all Churchillian then. Watch this space.

Niel

Media Photographs - at Judicial Review, High Court 17th Oct 8:45am

30th Sept 2019

Dear Supporter of the "STOP 700 MORE" flights a day group

At the time of joining our mailing list many of you asked "What can we do to help?"

Well this could be your chance as a very important event, a peaceful media opportunity, is approaching soon.
Thursday the 17th of October is the first day of the appeal of the Judicial Review at the High Court (Royal Courts of Justice) on The Strand in London. Climate groups, 5 local Councils and the Mayor of London are delighted to have been allowed an appeal, challenging the government's decision for a third runway at Heathrow.

It is our aim to have a substantial body of people gather outside the court at 8.45am for media photographs at 9am. This will only take an hour. With increasing public awareness of Climate Change and the health ill-effects of noise and pollution, we are hopeful that we can get the government's decision reviewed and reversed. But it will take our ongoing legal and media campaigns and the help of our supporters to achieve this. The more people who come and help, the better the message for the press.

If you (and your friends) can attend, this would be amazing and really helpful. The nearest tube station is Temple.

For our planning for the day, it would be really helpful if you could let us know if you "Plan to Attend", by emailing us at:- Stop700MoreGroup@gmail.com

We have the T-shirts, so please come and put one on and defend your quality of life.

Thank you,

Neil

100501-Judgement-day

1st May 2019

Dear STOP 700 MORE Group campaigner

Many thanks to those who, at very short notice, managed to get to the High Court today. Given the verdict it is unfortunate that common sense is going to take a little longer to prevail. Heathrow expansion flies in the face of growing public opinion and all aspects of climate science. We remain convinced that Heathrow expansion will fail to materialise and ultimately climate and health warnings will be properly heard and heeded.

The Government will be held to account to honour the world carbon targets they have agreed and signed up to; politicians must not be allowed to promise one thing and do another any longer. MPs out of tune with the needs of the planet and the people will be exposed for failing us when it comes to the time for the next election, and that could be sooner than we think.

100501_Before_going_into_Court
Before going into Court this morning.

In our invitation to you to join us we requested you pledge to attend two STOP 700 MORE peaceful protest events. Those of you who have now fulfilled this commitment can request to be removed from the email list. Many thanks to you for your help, well done.
However, we hope you will wish to stay part of our group. Unless you tell us not to contact you (our email is:- Stop700MoreGroup@Gmail.com ), we will continue to send you information and we hope you will attend more of our peaceful events. If you want to remain a member of the STOP 700 MORE Group you need to do nothing as you will automatically remain on our mailing list and will receive news again.

Many thanks to you and I look forward to seeing you in the future.

The judgement from all five groups who challenged the Government's decision to approve Heathrow's new terminals, new cargo centre, and 3rd Runway (a new inner city airport!) will be released at the same time in mid-May. We are hoping to give you a few days' notice before the judgement becomes public and are asking that you prepare yourselves to:-

on the steps outside the Royal Courts of Justice
- We will have "Stop 700 More" T-Shirts to wear

To summarise:-
- Our two weeks in court ended on Friday 22nd March.
- One of the lawyers, Neil Spurrier, wrote a "Resume of Judicial Review of Airports National Policy Statement"
- The two judges, Justice Holgate and Justice Hickinbottom, are currently deliberating.
- We are now expecting their judgement in mid-May.

There will not be any further "Stop 700 More" protests between now and then. However, many anti-Heathrow groups will be protesting outside the Courts and you may wish to pop along and support them, and/or go inside and hear the proceedings in Court 76. 7th March 2019

Dear "Stop 700 More" group member

Monday the 11th of March brings the start of the legal challenges to Heathrow expansion and is a perfect opportunity to raise awareness that expansion would bring 700 more flights a day, unless we oppose it strongly.

We will be gathering outside the Royal Courts of Justice, Strand, London WC2A 2LL from 9am until about 11am - with group photos in front of the Royal Courts of Justice from 9.45am. This will be a peaceful protest so bring your family and friends - and please try not to block the pavement. If you're feeling creative, do bring your own cardboard placard to wave.

On Monday when you arrive, we'll tick off your name and loan you a free "Stop 700 More" T-shirt (available in large and extra large sizes, so a jumper can be worn underneath if it is chilly). The "Collection/Returns" point is marked on the map below. You're welcome to keep the T-shirt if you're going to come to our next event, probably in mid-April, but if you just want it as a souvenir we hope you'll make us a small donation.

Stop 700 More Group
Closest tube station: Temple

We'll be joining senior politicians, environmental organisations, trade unionists and campaign groups supporting the Mayor of London, Hammersmith & Fulham, Hillingdon, Richmond, Wandsworth and Windsor & Maidenhead Councils, Greenpeace UK, Friends of the Earth, Plan B Earth and Twickenham resident Neil Spurrier who are challenging the Government's approval of plans for the reckless expansion of Heathrow in the Court.

If you've not been here before, do try and pop in and see the court room, even if it's just for a few minutes. The Judge refused to allow live-streaming to local courts around the country but there are seats for the public in Court 76 and extra seats will be available in an overflow court next door with a video link. Please be silent and respectful when in all courts. On Monday we'll be handing out a map/instructions on how to find Court room 76.

The 'Stop 700 More planes a day' message will be expanded on our banners and will cover aspects of health, noise, pollution and environment so all groups can get behind the message in their own way. The message on our T-shirts is simple but here is a little explanation of how it was intended. We have obviously borrowed an image resembling 'The Scream' by Edvard Munch. Those living under flight paths, some for the first time, may well need to cover their ears if a third runway is ever built. With our heads in our hands in disbelief that climate change warnings are being ignored, we can all unite in a SCREAM of frustration that our planet and quality of life are being destroyed.

Come and peacefully fight for your quality of life; once the runway is built and your future is a misery, it will be too late to scream.

Regards
Neil

Our First Leaflet

Stop 700-more-club

2nd Feb 2019

Dear fellow anti Heathrow expansion campaigners,

As March looms ever closer and the legal challenges begin, we all have a part to play in raising awareness against the plans for a 3rd runway at Heathrow.

A third runway would create 700 more flights per day and we all know the devastation that would bring. To highlight this number, we are building a "STOP 700 MORE" group and we are asking you to become part of it.

By joining this group, you would represent one of the extra flights per day, that a third runway would bring, if it were to ever open.

To become part of this jolly band, all you need to do is to sign up to join fellow anti-expansion supporters who are pledging to commit to two events.

The first of those actions will be to come outside the High Court in London on the morning of Monday 11th March - the first day of the trial against the Government's plans.

We are asking residents to join senior politicians, environmental organisations, trade unionists and campaign groups in making our voices heard and supporting the Mayor of London, Hammersmith & Fulham, Hillingdon, Richmond, Wandsworth and Windsor & Maidenhead Councils, Greenpeace UK, Friends of the Earth, Plan B Earth and Twickenham resident Neil Spurrier who are challenging the plans for this wreckless expansion of Heathrow in the Court.

So today, we are asking for two commitments. First, to become one of the 'Stop 700 More' members. Second, to come to Court on 11th March (more details on timings and location will be issued in due course), wearing one of our STOP 700 MORE t-shirts.

Please reply to this message with your name, email address and contact number. We do not need to know your address, but it is helpful to us to know where our supporters are based, so please include that if you wish.

We are also looking to plan a second event after the trial has taken place - but more information on that will appear closer to the time.

After attending any two events, we won't hassle you further unless you want to become part of our campaign. There is no obligation to do so, but of course your support would be extremely welcome.

If you have work commitments but would still like to become one of 700 supporters, then please contact us anyway - your support would still be appreciated!

Whatever your reasons for wanting to stop Heathrow expansion, whether that be against: more noise, climate change, air quality, loss of your home or community, we are stronger when united.

You deserve a quality of life; come and peacefully fight for it.

S.H.E. Newsletter 51

15th Sept 2018

Hello STOP HEATHROW EXPANSION supporters,

Yesterday we heard that on 4th October there is a hearing at the Royal Courts of Justice to determine whether some or all of the legal challenges to the Airports National Policy Statement (which puts forward a third runway) will go to full trial. Plan B https://planb.earth/ are planning a photo opportunity outside the Royal Courts of Justice in The Strand at 9am on 4th October.

OUR SERIOUS CONCERNS MUST BE HEARD
I'm writing to you because you have already shown you're keen to know more about the fight to stop a noisy, polluting and destructive third runway. You may already be active in our campaign or perhaps you simply feel the time has come to DO something more than supporting from the sidelines.

NOW IS AN IMPORTANT TIME TO GET INVOLVED
There is no doubt that millions of people will be adversely affected if a third runway is built, yet relatively few realise the massive impact it could have on them personally. It's outrageous that vital information, including something as important as flightpaths, will not be revealed until AFTER planning approval has been given!

A THIRD RUNWAY WOULD MEAN ANOTHER 700 FLIGHTS A DAY
Nowhere else in Europe suffers the noise and air pollution that those affected by Heathrow suffer - even with the current two runways. It is beyond comprehension that our government feels it is reasonable to support a foreign company that would rob you of a decent quality of life. You and your family should have clean air that won't damage your health and shorten your lives. You need a decent night's sleep and the chance to enjoy your home and open spaces without suffering the incessant noise generated by Heathrow's operations. Unlike most businesses, the airport is active 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

SO WHAT CAN YOU DO?
We want as many supporters as possible to pledge to take part in TWO events to raise public awareness. We want 700 people to sign up to the 'Stop 700 More' group to represent the 700 extra flights that people will suffer every single day if a third runway is ever built. That's another quarter of a million flights every year - with all the associated extra noise and pollution.

WE ARE ASKING FOR A LITTLE EFFORT FOR A BIG IMPACT
We are only asking you to pledge to attend two events - which will be peaceful public photo opportunities and are likely to be fun too. (We hope you'll enjoy being part of the group and want to do more but that's entirely up to you.) We'll have an exclusive 'Stop 700 more' group T-shirt, which people can borrow or buy - the £5 for the T-shirt is subsided to keep it affordable for all. Surely your quality of life is worth a few hours of your time and a fiver.

SO PLEASE JOIN US RIGHT NOW
Sign up at www.stopheathrowexpansion.uk/700more/
or Email me on: info@stopheathrowexpansion.co.uk
or Call now on: 07850 904677
making sure to give your email details or phone number very clearly. We will advise you well in advance of any event. In the past, supporters have taken part in a variety of activities - from a quick photo in a location that is under threat, to a coach trip taking half a day. Many events take 2-3 hours.

YOU HAVE RIGHTS. TAKE THE TIME TO DEFEND THEM
I look forward to hearing from you,
